LION is an Australian film based on the real-life events of Saroo Brierley. Saroo has grown up in an adopted family in Australlia. Although he appreciated his chance at a better life with his adopted parents, Saroo couldn't forget the now distant memories of his impoverished life left behind in India.

Saroo Munshi Khan lived with his mother, two brothers and sister in a small town named Khandwa. Saroo joined his brother on an adventure and his life changed forever. Trying to find home, Saroo found himself on a train travelling for more than 1600 kilometres, headed to Kalkuta.

With no choice but to try and survive in a city he knew nothing about, at five years old he lived on the streets of Kalkuta for three weeks. Managing to keep himself alive until he was found and reported lost, he was placed in an orphanage. He became Saroo Brierley once he was adopted by Sue and John Brierley, a couple from Australia who raised him and loved him endlessly.

Consumed by childhood memories, Saroo could never forget where he came from., Saroo and his crushed spirit were determined to find answers. Searching for a way back home became Saroo’s mission. Using Google Earth he traced the streets he played on and the landmarks close to where he once lived became clearer and clearer. His pursuit came to an end and he was able to map out his journey back to India.
